I just found your blog through the Mankato Marathon web site. Great thoughts! I've returned to competitive running after an unintended hiatus, and I've decided to train for the Mankato marathon for the reasons you describe: I need to know a few things about myself. Keep up the training & blogging!

Some days, finishing is its own reward. It may not have been pretty, but you stuck with it and like you said, it wasn't for naught. I think hard runs are actually better teachers than easy ones because they take me to the end of me and then I have no choice but to look Up! Keep up the hard work Rich!

It's called getting OLDER and WISER! I appreciate this point of view and really it has great spiritual application. If I go about running like a mad woman day after day, I end up overtired and edgy and flat. We all need times of refreshing and healing. I find my self built up as I rest in the quite times of hydrating on the water of God's Word and I am made whole and return to running joyfully and easily with clarity. We must purpose to enter rest and not fear it...thinking we are getting ahead by pushing ourself one more run or one more day just leaves us wiped out and broken.

Rich,
I absolutely love reading your blog. You are an amazing writer. I find myself anticipating your next entry each time I visit your site. You inspire me, maybe not to run but to find a passion in life like you have for running. Thank you for that.
